Located in the mountains 750 meters above sea level, Tonaru a lively mining town was home to the Besshi Copper Mine Headquarters from 1916 to 1930. In Tonaru, many relics of Japan’s industrial heritage such as ruins of the copper ore storage plant and an inclined shaft, etc. still remain. This zone houses the Tonaru Historical Archives Center, the Mine Workshop and a flower garden. It is the trailhead to the Douzan-Goe Pass and Mt. Nishi-Akaishi-Yama. A guided tour by microbus runs here from the Hadeba Zone. (reservation and fee required)
